Last Monday night as I was leaving a local store my turn signals quit. They were fine when I drove to the store. The next morning I get out to see if any of the other lights were malfunctioning.
It was a miracle – the signals were working.
And they worked fine until Saturday night when they quit again. Then yesterday morning – back again. I know it is probably a short somewhere.
I will get the problem fixed I told myself.
As I was driving to a listing I thought about how I also need to get the AC checked as it is not blowing as cool as it should. Then I thought about the back right window switch not working correctly.
These pesky little items don't effect the ability to get from point A to point B but they are starting to add up!
If you are getting ready to put your house on the market, think about the little things that have been “acting up” through the years.
Have you been living those little things that don’t impact your ability to live in your house?
Maybe it is time to tackle that deferred maintenance! Enough said!

Good luck with the car. It sounds like it might be time to trade it in.
Gary, you're really on target with this one. It's like my house and my car - although the house is worse than the car.
Jason - Thanks. The car can be fixed for $500. No trading here yet!
Pat - Sort of hit me yesterday morning - deferred maintenance will get you every time! Thanks.
Gary- This is a good reminder for everyone. All of us are used to the thing-a-ma-jig that you have to jiggle for it to work, so we put it on the backburner because it works as long as we jiggle it. But those things start to add up especialy when you're getting ready to put your house on the market. Hey.. we're all guilty of that!
Kathy - Yep, "jiggle the handle" on the toilett doesn't when selling your house! Thanks.
It can also be those dozens of little things that turn people off. In fact, I had one buyer pull out of a sale with this statement: “I was hoping there would be a few big things instead of soooooooooo many little things.”
GOOD MORNING GARY! What a great analogy! A light that flickers, a door that sticks or that you have to kick open, a window that won't open - can happen on a car or house and over time, it doesn't get better - might as well fix it before it gets worse!
Good advice for home sellers. Every home has many little things that need to be fixed.
Jim - To lose a sale because of so many things ....seller should be ashamed!
Roy - Love the flowers. Yes, I know every home has some issues that just crop up when least expected - inspection time!
Gabrielle - Definitely pays to address the issue when it happens - one at a time!
Hey, Gary!
I inluded this post in today's Last Week's Favorites.
Cheers! Pat
Yes, very well said. I came here via Patricia's weekly ppst.
Patricia - Thanks, I am honored!
Debbie - Thanks for stopping by!
Gary - Definitely the way my car was - then got another, so I don't have to worry...... And the sellers always have the same problems, too!
Dagny - So true. Like many sellers, I have waited until I have to put big $$$ into repairs! Thanks.
Those little things become so commonplace that we hardly notice them. Like the door on my truck - if I want it to shut properly, I have to roll down the window first. (The good part is, the truck is so "tight" that I don't have to deal with the dust on our dirt roads in summer.)
There are a few little things like that in the house as well, but until they really bug me...
Luckily, this one isn't for sale!
Gary- succintly and eloquently put. Some of these deferred repairs are like a pet odor- the owner gets used to it but people seeing the house notice the second they walk in. And both are costly.
