Most people agree - print media advertising is not as effective as it once was. I was reading a blog post today that spoke specifically about the cost effectiveness of print advertising.
The study was quoted an article from The Wall Street Journal. Classified advertising dollars are were the primary revenue generators for newspapers I am sure.
If you look around the country you will see many newspapers that have quit publishing, cut salaries for employees, reduced circulation....cut costs in every manner.
Why? People are not reading the print media. So, it follows, if they are not reading the newspaper, why advertise there?
So, for the publishers and executives who had us all cornered, remember, it was fun while it lasted.
As a real estate agent in Brevard County, Florida, (serving the primary areas of Suntree, Viera and Rockledge/Cocoa), I use the Internet extensively.
I do not use newspaper advertising (or magazines) very often. I will admit to the rare use of the newspaper - not because of its effectiveness - but as an opportunity to reach folks who are not as "connected."
The bottom line - buyers and sellers of real estate use the Internet and sites like www.localism.com! Buyers and sellers choose real estate agents who use the Internet as well!

Gary,
One factor that is easy to overlook is that print advertising is still viable - just not on paper . Print it online. :)

Steve - Print it online...never thought of it that way!
Just a couple of thoughts I had on another blog that I thought I would share here:
Though I agree that printed periodicals are loosing readership, revenue and relevance I see that the news business continues to explode and is looking for a new venue where it can thrive.
The internet is an obvious place for newspapers to target but with the Kindle 2 recently released, I see a world where newspapers can regain market share and give REALTORS another platform in which to advertise.
For now, we still advertise in the major newspapers (Los Angeles Times) because their readership is sizeable and our clientele deems it a necessary marketing tool.
Finally, I don't think newspapers will become extinct. We still need them as a portable entertainment source. Afterall, its hard to take a lap top to the bathroom and I'm certainly not taking my Kindle.
I'm looking into offering my services through companies like Money Mailer or other direct mail coupon based businesses. I don't see the benefit of advertising in print newspapers but will be advertising with my local paper online.
